Cabinet of emergence — specimen 01

Conway's Game of Life

Four rules, applied to every cell at once, no cell aware of the whole board: a live cell with two or three live neighbors survives, a dead cell with exactly three live neighbors is born, everything else dies or stays dead. Nobody designs the outcome. Below: one random board watched live, and a running tally of what a random seed tends to become — dies out, freezes solid, settles into a pulse, or never resolves at all.
